Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice
We are in a small room with the vampire, face to face, as he speaks--as he pours out the hypnotic, shocking, moving, and erotically charged confessions of his first two hundred years as one of the living dead. The time is now. We are in a small room with the vampire, face to face, as he speaks--as he pours out the hypnotic, shocking, moving, and erotically charged confessions of his first two hundred years as one of the living dead. . . He speaks quietly, plainly, even gently ... carrying us back to the night when he departed human existence as heir--young, romantic, cultivated--to a great Louisiana plantation, and was inducted by the radiant and sinister Lestat into the other, the "endless," life ...

Alcuin Book Sale
Alcuin Library is having a book sale, beginning today, and running through October. This particular set of books was generously donated by the T.R. Anderson family and comprises, largely, a set of popular novels, including a number of bestsellers. A much larger donation was made by the family which is in the process of being integrated into SJU special collections and HMML.
Unlike previous sales, where we asked for $.25, we will be asking for a $1 donation. We will accept larger donations as well! This pricing change was made to generate a little bit more revenue for the library but still keep it very affordable for the average local person to pick up something good to read.
Proceeds from the sale will go towards buying more books for the collection.
I expect them to go fairly quickly, so stop by soon if you want to take a look.

National Breast Cancer Month
![]() |
| From Google Image |
U.S. Breast Cancer Statistics:
- About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
- In 2011, an estimated 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 57,650 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
- About 2,140 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in men in 2011. A man’s lifetime risk of breast cancer is about 1 in 1,000.
- About 39,520 women in the U.S. were expected to die in 2011 from breast cancer, though death rates have been decreasing since 1990 — especially in women under 50. These decreases are thought to be the result of treatment advances, earlier detection through screening, and increased awareness.
- For women in the U.S., breast cancer death rates are higher than those for any other cancer, besides lung cancer.
